There are many programs that may provide help and/or protection to employees in these times. The State has extended unemployment benefits through a variety of federal programs and issued a statement condemning employment discharges related to COVID-19. The expansion of unemployment benefits, provides compensation for individuals who might not otherwise normally qualify. There is expanded entitlement to protected time away from work for COVID related illnesses under the Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act and provisions for paid sick leave and payments during other medical leaves related to COVID-19.
